I have hosted my site free at http://www.freeindianhosting.com, they provide good support. But check out with the your required space.

    • Roald 6:03 am on August 8, 2010

The most reputable free web host is http://webs.com/ but if this is for business or professional purposes, invest in a paid web host. These days web hosting can go as low as $3 a month, which is not only very cheap, but also saves you a lot of the headaches you’ll get with free (limited disk space and bandwidth, static-only sites, advertisements, limited technical support, etc.). Check out http://buywebspacetoday.com/ for good affordable web hosts.

    • Mike C 6:03 am on August 8, 2010

Yes there are many free hosts out there but keep in mind you get what you pay for. Here’s a list of recommended free web hosts that do not put forced ads on your website: http://www.thefreehosts.com

  • A free web hosting service for my art and comics?

Frankly, i’m getting sick of Deviantart and smackjeeves so was wandering if there ere some free that ran along the same lines as Xepher?I can’t make webistes to save my life so it would have to have some sort of way for me to get a decent-looking 1….

I’ve also been to freewebs so please don’t suggest anything that has an annoying amount of ads. =_=

If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don’t go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. Free web hosts usually put advertisements on your websites and it could be annoying.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months’ time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

      Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukenden/

They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 1500000 MB (1500 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.
Visit the site to check details.

It can be a really hard choice choosing the right webhost. Free webhosting usually subjects your site to ugly 3rd party banners etc. I always recommend going with a paid hosting company, even if its a small project. Theres just something about being able to really call the website yours that makes it that much better when the project is actually finished.

There are some really decent priced plans out nowadays also…If you decide to go wit a paid plan, you should really consider going to a site like http://www.webhostgumbo.com/ … they have an up to date comparison chart for the top webhosting companies this year with pricing and incentives of each one. Thats where i found the company i host my 4 websites through. Well good luck to you!

You can actually sell you art at lulu.com!

This way, you can earn money from it and show off your stuff, you won’t have to pay a single penny!
The website will take out 20% of every sale to fund the website and places that make it so it’s still completely free.

I have an account there too, but I haven’t sold anything only because I haven’t finished drawing my manga yet.

    3. Quick Home & Business

Which is is better for my business, I have a Web Design & Web business, and would like to find out if some 1 had experience in those software to provide comments.

    Thanks for your help!

I use QuickBooks Pro for several businesses for which I keep books, and one is a web design and hosting business.

In looking at other software, I found QuickBooks to be the most flexible to meet needs, the easiest to do recurring billing and the "lowest maintenance" of any I tried.

I do recommend that you do the complete tutorial before you start using any software. It’s important to know all the features and how to use them most effectively!

    • Quiet.Buck 11:46 am on August 7, 2010

QuickBooks hands down. Used that program for over 10 yrs now to run my business. The rest are just copy cats of the best, QuickBooks.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website (ex: http://www.yahoo.com). To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BH web hosting which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

You can reach reviews about this web hosting provider and its latest DISCOUNT COUPONS at:

      http://www.threehosts.com/reviews/1st

Only $3.95 /month (with discount coupon).

They also offer "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get). You can use this service optionally. You can also create the pages offline with your favorite program (DreamWeaver, FrontPage, Microsoft Publisher, iWeb etc.), and then upload them to your web host. This is another easy way to get your website online.

Buddy the websites you see dont come through air. When you type in the URL (that http://www.asfd.com thing), URL gets matched with the IP Address ( a unique address for all connected systems ). This system contains all the stuff you see on websites. That means, this computer/server has to be connected to internet 24×7 to serve needs of millions worldwide.

So if you want to set up a website, you’ll contact a web host who will provide you some fixed amount of webspace where you can upload your data. This will stay on and connected almost always. So you pay him for his service.

If you are a beginner you can get free hosting. Check directories like free-webhosts.com

  • investigating web hosting services, is this not available for Mac OS?

I am new to this process. However, I went in to register my domain names at Go Daddy and went to choose service and it merely had options for Linux- and Windows-based OS. As a Mac owner what are my options? I ran into this issue at Enom also. I plan to use Joomla as my CMS (not sure if this helps).

What they mean is the server is running either Linux or Windows. If you use a mac you will still be able to view it. Most users use Linux as it’s cheaper and web hosting wise you won’t really notice a difference (unless your a web applications developer etc…) For Joomla that would be fine with any host which allows databases.
I run a small website too which is being hosted by CGIwire (http://CGIwire.com) – So far their help has been amazing (setup within minutes which was very impressive).

    • Amanda D. Ambrose 5:47 am on August 7, 2010

No,The web hosting system has nothing to do with your own OS.It runs at the server side, you just need to view it in the explore,IE or FireFox.That’s it,you know nothing about the web?Do you need help with Joomla?I’ve run joomla sites for years.Feel free to contact me at giandomenicogcg#yahoo.com,I can install joomla free for you.

    • Jess A 5:47 am on August 7, 2010

It doesn’t matter what type of OS you are using in your computer. You can either use a windows/Linux web hosting. Most popular hosting servers run in Linux.

Don’t use godaddy because of http://www.nodaddy.com

One of the biggest misconceptions is that you have to select the same operating system for your hosting account that you use on your own computer. This is simply not true. In other words, you can select Linux for your hosting account if you currently use Windows or Mac operating systems on your own computer.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BH web hosting which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

For my understanding cPanel should work fine on Mac OS.

Any way you can try HostGator.com as they did provide a 45days money back guarantee.

Search from the Internet found they are offering this Coupon Code "hsgator994" which is the higher discount so far, hope this help you to get a Good Saving :)

    • Ian B 5:47 am on August 7, 2010

Yes, go will Linux. Joomla is a great CMS, have used it for a number of sites.
Have one hosted on GoDaddy servers and works fine, so if domain is there, you might as well get your hosting through them as well.

It makes no difference what your own computer is, as if you are editing files for example the template php file, you will be using software to edit the code which you then upload to your website. You will need an ftp program and html/php editing software if you want to customise your php files.
      All the best :)

    • koppe74 5:47 am on August 7, 2010

Mac OS is (now) Unix-based, and some of the providers boosting using Unix-servers, may very well be using Mac.

I don’t really understand why you need it to be Mac-based. That you create a web-page on a Mac, doesn’t mean that the finished site need to be *hosted* on a Mac. HTML is HTML.

I would suggest using Linux/Unix based solution. Not only is it (often) cheaper; but Apache, PHP, MySQL and so forth is readily available for Mac OS too, which makes it easy to dry-run your site before uploading.

The Windows-based solution, probably uses ASP instead of PHP, Windows’ SQL solution instead of MySQL, and may have FrontPage extensions activated. If you’re not using FrontPage or ASP to write your site, you may as well use the Linux/Unix solution. ASP is more of a proprietary solution than PHP, so odds are you can’t test ASP-scripts on a Mac before uploading your site. Of course, once the site is uploaded to the web-hotell, it can be accessed equally by computers running Windows, Mac, Linux, Unix or another OS; wheter it uses PHP or ASP.

If you’re planning to use Joomla, you’ll need PHP and MySQL; as Joomla is based on these. So select the Linux/Unix server. Packages like Gallery, Coppermine, phpBB and so forth; are all PHP-based packages, meaning you’ll need PHP to run them… so you’ve already discarded using ASP (which is Microsoft’s alternative to PHP).

I will stay away from hostgator. They have a really bad customer service as I found out. I have been using fatcow for sometime now and they are a really good web hosting company. They have excellent support and what I really love about them is that fact they are powered entirely by wind power. They have hosting plans that will fit everyone’s need.

For general basic web hosting, their basic service should be more than enough for you. I host a very high traffic website and I’m using their basic hosting so it should work for you as well. Plus you also get a FREE domain name when you buy a hosting plan from them.

It’s really a feature packed hosting company. You are offered unlimited disk space and bandwidth, emails, google, yahoo and facebook ad credits.

Signing up at this link, http://bit.ly/fcowhost , gives you a special discount on your hosting.

Ofcourse they can but a reliable hosting provider will not do so. so while choosing the hosting provider be very cautious.

    • Agent Cracker 5:48 pm on August 6, 2010

Yes they can access your cpanel. This feature might help you if you ever forgotten your access username/password or if your site gets hacked. To be safe you want to host your site on a reputable web host like http://www.cpwebhosting.com or you can do private hosting.

    • Roald 5:48 pm on August 6, 2010

Yes, your web host has access to your cPanel and all your files. So make sure to choose a trustworthy and established company to host your websites. Check out http://buywebspacetoday.com/ for some recommended web hosts.

    • Dave 5:48 pm on August 6, 2010

He can and that’s why you need a reliable and safe web hosting. Most importantly, its only those trusted companies which offer safe web hosting.

One of the most popular web hosting providers is Fatcow and their services are acclaimed globally. You can trust their services. Check here: http://www.webhostingbreak.com/fat-cow-database/

    • Tyler 5:48 pm on August 6, 2010

Yes he can. He is the one that basically is the super admin of your cPanel along with anyone elses he hosts. If he was to alter your site without permission that is considered a crime. You don’t have to worry unless it is some really small company where the guy has nothing to lose. Good luck! Hope I helped! Any other questions feel free to message me. Tyler

NeonD is a reliable web hosting service provider. It seems that your site will get lot of visitors so you require a lot of data transfer quota.

For $7/month you can get 15000 MB Data Storage and 300 GB Data Transfer. You can get more data storage and data transfer for higher price.

    • Randy 2:46 pm on August 6, 2010

I would go with HypedHosting. They have cheap plans and I have never had a down time so far.

DreamHost is a good site – I believe my site is registered under them. Also – completely related to this site, Yahoo has a hosting plan for small businesses, as well.

    • Mark S 2:46 pm on August 6, 2010

look into chime host, they offer good price and good features.

    • mclal1pt 2:46 pm on August 6, 2010

Most of the answers here on yahoo answers are about some hosting companies I have never seen. People are promoting their off affiliate linnks.

Anyway, When looking for a hosting company to promote, you should check out some review websites.

For example, i found this top 10 review site which ranks web hosting sites from best to worse.

      Take a look: http://www.top-10-best-webhosting.com/

I went there and checked out their top host which pays a whopping $65 for a referral.

  • About domain registration and web hosting?

I have heard more than once now that it is good practice for online buisnesses to keep his domain registration and companies separate? Can somebody explain to me why this would be if it’s so?

    • soekind 11:45 am on August 6, 2010

I don’t see any logical reason for that. Who told you that?

I recommend following sites if you are looking for.

      Webhosting

      Hostmonster http://www.anurl.com/?PQMRY

      Domains
Following site is quite good to register domains as price is reasonable with free privacy. Some charge about $5/ year just for free privacy.

      IPOWER http://www.anurl.com/?TXIBE

So that you don’t lose it all. You only have to look at registeflies.com to see current problems.

Your domain is the most important thing and you must keep control of it. if you have control of your domain name you can move from host to better host very easily.

    • Johnny N 11:45 am on August 6, 2010

Think of domain names and webhosting as an analogy to cellphone numbers and the wireless phone service providers.

The reason why you register your domain with one company and webhosting with another is so that the webhoster cannot take over your website. Supposed you get into an argument with your webhoster…it is easy to sign up for new webhosting service somewhere else and have the your domain registration company to point the domain to the new webhoster’s servers.

Suppose you mistakenly used the same company for registering AND hosting a domain and you do get into a dispute with them over bad service…they might take forever and give you a hard time if you try to transfer out the domain to another webhoster for service elsewhere.

I hope this helps and good luck!
